Summer is winding down and fall is just around the corner. For so many people the beginning of the year feels like if falls around this time and that’s because school is almost back in session. It’s a transitory season for many, whether you’re getting your kid ready for their first day being a third grader or you’re going back to school yourself, or you just happen to be going with the flow of this transitory time and seeing changes yourself.
Here, we want to give you a few ideas on what you can do to help ease yourself or your child back into the swing of things, ready for a scholastic setting.
Get some routines going
It helps to get into the swing of things in more ways than one. Try and go to sleep, put your kids to sleep, at the same time every night in the weeks leading up to school starting. The same goes for waking up, and meal times too.
Manage your sleeping patterns
As mentioned before, it’s also good to try and establish a normal sleep schedule. Summer days can sometimes lack structure, so trying to go to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up early will be helpful when school starts, and throughout the rest of the year. If you have trouble sleeping, follow Damiana Corca’s sleep tips in our blog for some help.
Incorporate fish oils
The omega-3 fatty acids in fish oils is very helpful and can promote healthy brain stimulation. Something that obviously will come in handy when needing to stay focused and alert at school or back in the office. We have an awesome one at Yinova!
Take magnesium
Magnesium Citrate is an overall “feel good” supplement. It can give you more energy, can boost your central nervous system, and even your electrolyte balance. It also acts as a relaxant, which makes it perfect to tackle small bouts of anxiety; something not so unfamiliar to those of us who are about to start something new. New can be exciting – but it can also be scary and seeking balance in that will help with the introduction of routine. Magnesium Glycinate is also a great supplement, which promotes relaxation.
Pick a good multi-vitamin
A multivitamin (a good one) can ensure everyday wellness and help you manage seasonal changes. We offer herbal consultations here at Yinova where one of our expert herbalists can help recommend which supplements would be the most beneficial.
Read a book
It doesn’t necessarily need to be school-related but getting in the swing of reading again can fuel your creativity on top of teaching you new information. Head to the bookstore or library in case your summer hasn’t been filled with good reads.
Pick out some goals
A good way to get excited is to make a list of goals for the start of the school year. Actually, the start of a day, the start of a week, the start of a month, anytime is good for this! Sometimes it helps to make yourself think of areas of your life you want to improve or new things you want to discover. Saying it out loud or writing it down makes it more of a real ambition, and something to set your sights on.
Get a tune-up
Seeing a practitioner before you transition to a new setting (for example, a new semester) can really help encourage your body into balance. Our team of Chinese medicine practitioners can prescribe custom herbal formulas that can help with concentration (in particular, ones that can help you focus during the day, but still be able to sleep at night), anxiety, sleep, and more.
